Am I the only one who noticed that over the last few years, bags were getting smaller and smaller? As we have stepped into the New Year and a new decade, I would like to make some fashion predictions. Which bags will be popular? Any specific handbags to dominate the year? In this blog post I would like to discuss the top 5 designer bags for 2020.
A bag, which is certainly going to be the IT bag of 2020 is the new Chanel 19. Named after the birth date of the Mademoiselle Gabrielle “Coco” Chanel, the Chanel 19 pays tribute to its elder, the 2.55 bag. The Chanel 19 bag features an ultra-supper leather structure with diamond shape quilting pattern. The bag has almost pillow-like shape. It features modernized double-C closure and a trio of chains (a thick metal chain interlaced with leather which links from silver to aged gold and ruthenium). To me, the 19 bag feels like a relaxed version of the Classic Flap. It looks very modern and fresh. Moreover, I absolutely love the idea of combining 3 different metal finishes on the chain. It gives the bag a contemporary vibe. Another reason why I believe the 19 bag is going to have a huge success is because it was the last handbag conceptualized by Karl Lagerfeld at Chanel. The legacy of Karl Lagerfeld will forever live in his designs. Karl worked on the 19 Bag together with Virginie Viard, who is now the new artistic director at Chanel.
Overall, puffer bag trend will be going strong in 2020. Another bag that I believe will be incredibly popular this year is Saint Laurent LouLou Puffer Bag. The LouLou Bag was initially released in 2017 and since then it has become one of the most sought after bags from Saint Laurent. In 2019, the fashion house came out with the puffer version of the infamous bag. While the original LouLou is made of soft matelassé calfskin leather, the updated puffer version comes in quilted lambskin. The Puffer LouLou has a pillow-like shape and feel. The bag features a prominent YSL logo and a magnetic closure. Many fashion influencers have been spotted carrying the bag.
According to the Spring/Summer 2020 catwalks, this year the focus will be on slouchy bags. We’ve already seen in 2019, how Bottega Veneta’s Pouch Clutch instantly became a hit. Needless to say, that it will still be perfectly relevant in 2020. Moreover, with a huge success of the Pouch, the fashion house has quickly followed up with a release of its evolution – the Shoulder Pouch. Bottega Veneta’s Shoulder Pouch is described as a soft volumous shoulder bag crafted in exceptionally supple calf leather. The bag, indeed, looks very modern and the shape fully reflects the heritage of Bottega Veneta. I think that the Shoulder Pouch might very well be one of the IT bags of the year.
The bag that was carried by every major fashion influencer in fall 2019 was the Louis Vuitton Multi Pochette Accessories. In 2019, Louis Vuitton, following a huge demand for mini bags and small leather goods, has decided to combine its 3 popular small leather goods: Pochette Accessoires, Mini Pochette Accessoires, and Round Coin Purse into a new versatile everyday bag – The Multi Pochette Accessoires. All components of the bag are detachable, which is super practical. The Multi Pochette comes in the iconic Monogram Canvas. It features a removable gold-tone chain and an adjustable LV Jacquard strap which allows for multiple different ways to carry the bag. The bag first hit the Louis Vuitton boutiques on September 27th, 2019, and since then it has been sold out pretty much everywhere. Moreover, it is expected that the demand for the bag will remain high in 2020. Is the Multi Pochette on your wishlist?
Over the last two years, us, handbag lovers were blessed to witness the returns of the iconic Dior Saddle and Fendi Baguette bags. In 2020, the focus will be on Prada and the return of its iconic nylon mini bag which was famous back in the late 90’s and early 2000’s. I am personally so thrilled about this reissue and I am sure it will have a lot of success. The design of the bag is very practical and feminine + nylon is a very durable material. However, the reissue version of the bag is slightly more structured than the original, it has a removable Saffiano hangtag and the Safiano leather on the zipper pull. Nonetheless, I believe that if it was ever the right time to bring this iconic bag back, it is now!
