Louis Vuitton Pochette Metis was first released in 2012 and since then the bag has earned its status as one of the most desired bags by Louis Vuitton. For years, the Pochette Metis has been all over the Instagram and magazines, worn by fashion bloggers, influencers and celebrities. However, things have changed in 2019, when Coach Cassie has entered the market. The Cassie bag has basically shaken the luxury handbag world for the reason that it reminds a lot of the Pochette Metis. Recently, all major influencers have been talking about the Cassie bag and how it is a great dupe for the Pochette Metis. But is it really? In this blog post I would like to put both bags against each other to see which one is best to get. So, if you cannot decide between the two bags, carry on reading!

The Pochette Metis

What people love the Pochette Metis bag for is its design. The bag features a simple, yet very elegant rectangular silhouette with rounded corners. The Pochette Metis comes in 3 variations: in classic LV Monogram Canvas, Reverse Monogram Canvas and Monogram Empreinte leather. The bag features a natural cowhide leather top handle trim, an adjustable crossbody strap and gold hardware. There is also one exterior zip pocket on the back. The measurements of the Pochette Metis are 25.0 x 19.0 x 7.0 cm or 9.8 x 7.5 x 3.5 inches. There are three interior compartments. The only difference between the three variations of the bag is that the Pochette Metis in classic LV Monogram Canvas and Reverse Monogram Canvas features a microfiber lining, while the bag in Monogram Empreinte leather is lined with textile.

Talking about the exterior of the Cassie bag. Indeed, the Cassie features a silhouette very similar to the Pochette Metis. Cassie, just like Pochette Metis has a leather top handle and comes with a removable crossbody strap. However, the crossbody strap the Cassie bag comes with is non-adjustable. There is also an exterior pocket on the back, however, unlike the Pochette Metis, the Cassie features a slip pocket instead of the zipped one. The design of the Cassie is finished with an iconic Coach turnlock closure. The Cassie comes in either Coach Signature Canvas or Polished Pebble Leather. Size-wise, dimensions of both Pochette Metis and Cassie bags are very similar. The measurements of the Cassie bag are 25.5 x 4.5 x 18.5 cm or 10 x 7 1/4 x 1 3/4 inches. The bag features three interior compartments with fabric lining.

Pricing: The Pochette Metis vs. Cassie

Arguably the biggest difference between the Louis Vuitton Pochette Metis and Coach Cassie bags is in their price. The Pochette Metis in classic Monogram Canvas retails for $1,890 (price as of March 2020). The bag in Reverse Monogram Canvas and Monogram Empreinte leather retails at $1,950 and $2,300 respectively. Coach Cassie, however, retails for just $350. The price is the same for both Canvas and leather options.

So, which bag to get, the Louis Vuitton Pochette Metis or Coach Cassie?

I’d say, that it depends. If price difference plays a huge significance for you, then go for the Cassie. In addition, Coach is known for their leather quality. In my view, this is exactly why the Cassie bag has gathered so much following recently. With Coach you get what you pay for: a great quality for a reasonable price tag.

Another thing to take into account is availability of the Pochette Metis vs. Cassie. Pretty much always sold out in boutiques and online, the Pochette Metis is one of those bags that people choose to hunt on the pre-loved market – simply because it’s too difficult to get one directly from LV. On the other hand, the Cassie Bag is easily accessible both online and in boutiques.

Talking about the pre-loved market. The Pochette Metis is definitely going to retain its value better than the Cassie. As we all know, Louis Vuitton is one of the brands in the holy trinity of designer handbag brands (Hermes, Chanel and Louis Vuitton). Bags from these fashion houses usually have the best resale value. You are likely not to get your money back by selling your used Coach Cassie. However, the situation is completely opposite when it comes to Louis Vuitton Pochette Metis. Due to that the bag is difficult to find in boutiques, on the resale market it often sells for a premium.

Regardless of all pros and cons of the two bags, one last thing that I’d like to say: go for the bag you love! If your heart craves the Pochette Metis, go for it and don’t settle for less. You can find the bag in new or excellent condition on Fashionphile. It’s my personal favorite luxury resale site. On Fashionphile you can shop for 100% authentic pre-loved luxury handbags, with some designs for up to 80% off retail prices. Other trusted places to shop for authentic pre-loved luxury include Vestiaire Collective, Rebag and The RealReal.
