Can you believe we are already in the beginning of the astronomical fall? Even if you are still in denial, it’s about time to pack away your tank tops and get your wardrobe ready for the new season. Eager to explore what the new Fall/Winter 2021 season has to offer, I’ve browsed the FW21 runways and uncovered the top 5 fashion trends that I believe absolutely everyone will be rocking this season. Read on to find out what these trends are and get your shopping lists ready.
1. Bright colors
This season designers have made it clear – bright colors are for fall and winter. And I couldn’t agree more. After over a year in lockdowns, our wardrobes require an injection of positivity. You know, typical fall/winter neutrals aren’t necessarily mood lifters. Bright colors, like pink, yellow and lime-green, on the contrary, give our moods an instant lift and take away those lockdown blues!
Designers have fully embraced the bright-colored palette in their FW21 collections. Bright hues were spotted on FW21 catwalks of Versace, Moschino, Loewe, Bottega Veneta, Balmain and many others. From lime-green knits to vibrant outwear styles, this season it’s all about the clothes that make you smile.
2. Sweater Vests
Another big fashion trend for FW21 is sweater vests. Don’t worry, these aren’t the sleeveless knits you remember from the 90’s! Over the last couple of seasons sweater vests have gone through some serious style evolution and current designs look nothing like the sweater vests stored in your dad’s wardrobe.
This season, sweater vests come in a variety of styles and fits. From classic to edgy, cropped to oversized, there is an abundance of options to choose from in both luxury and affordable segments. Seriously, be prepared for the sweater vest to become your favorite layering piece this fall! Wear your’s over a turtleneck, a buttoned-down shirt, or even a midi dress, this season’s sweater vests are about keeping you warm without sacrificing on style.
3. Leopard Coats
Fall/Winter 2021 marks the return of the leopard print. While animal prints never really go out of style, their popularity varies from season to season. Fall 2019 was all about the zebra print. Then, the cow print was trending in fall 2020. Now, in fall 2021, the leopard print is back in full force.
Perhaps, you already have a leopard coat hanging in your wardrobe? If that’s the case, you’re in luck. You’re about to rock one of the season’s hottest fashion trends without spending a dime! Leopard coats were spotted on FW21 catwalks of Saint Laurent, Ganni and many others. From tailored silhouettes to faux-fur styles, this season, there is a leopard print coat out there for every taste.
4. Chunky Loafers
With chunky lug-sole boots becoming the official shoe of FW20, it was only a matter of time before the trend penetrated other types of footwear. Indeed, it comes at no surprise that FW21’s hottest shoe is the chunky loafer. Stylish, comfortable and versatile, these will pair well with everything from sweatpants to dresses.
It’s hard to look at the street style photos this season without spotting a pair of Prada’s popular brushed leather loafers. These have been a favorite among the fashion set ever since they’ve launched. However, you don’t necessarily have to pay a designer price tag to get on the trend. The high street has already picked up on it and there are dozens of chunky-sole loafers to choose from at much more affordable price points. See my favorites below.
5. Fluffy Bags
As temperatures get lower, cozy accessories come in pretty handy. Arguably, the cutest trend of the Fall/Winter 2021-2022 is fluffy handbags. From shearling to faux-fur and other fluffy textures, this season, our favorite designers have chosen to give their bags a cozy upgrade.
This season, fluffy bags come in a variety of silhouettes, from clutches to oversized totes. For FW21, Jacquemus reimagined their coveted Le Chiquito in suede with shearling trims, while Prada released a fluffy version of their popular Re-edition 2000. Chanel’s Mini Flap Bag this season, also comes in a fluffy iteration. Actually, some people have noted that FW21’s Mini Flap reminds them of the furry mittens! Well, with handbags this cozy who needs them anyway!
