Top 5 Bag Trends To Have On Your Radar in 2023
Happy New Year everyone! Yes, 2023 is officially here and yes, I can’t believe it either. But as any handbag lover would say: new year, new bag! That’s why I’ve decided to kick off 2023 by discussing all of the biggest bag trends for the year.
In case if you didn’t know, designers showcase their Spring/Summer collections during the Fashion Month in September and October. And that’s how we get to know all of the upcoming trends in advance. But of course, you’d have to follow the fashion weeks for that. Which is exactly what I do in my spare time. That’s why it really didn’t take much work for me to put together a list of the 5 biggest bag trends of 2023. From oversized totes to fuzzy clutches, these 5 bag trends are poised to be everywhere this year.

1. Big Bags

Time to say goodbye to handbags that hold nothing more than a credit card! Yes, you guys, after multiple seasons of reigning supreme, micro bags are losing it to their larger and more practical counterparts, such as the Icare Maxi Tote from Saint Laurent. Actually, it looks like we are going to see quite a lot of oversized bags in 2023, as those were spotted on every major Spring/Summer 2023 runway, from oversized hand-held clutches at Louis Vuitton to super-sized totes at Bottega.
2. Back-to-Work Bags

If there’s something we’ve learnt from the Spring/Summer 2023 runways, it’s that bags this year mean business. Structured, boxy styles have been spotted all over the SS23 runways, signaling the official end of the “work-from-home” era. But don’t you worry, this year’s office bags are anything but boring. Just look at Prada’s latest Re-Edition 1995 Bag that comes in a wide variety of hues, incl. metallics.
3. Minimalistic Silhouettes

Sometimes less is more, and that’s exactly what this next bag trend is about. Versatile and practical, minimalist bags were spotted all over the Spring/Summer 2023 runways, from understated totes at The Row to simplistic clutches at Khaite. Perhaps that’s a sign that in 2023 we should all just return to the basics. Or that’s just another attempt for designers to prove that when done right, simplistic silhouettes can really look incredibly expensive.
4. Sparkly & Embellished Bags

I think it’s time for all of us to acknowledge the fact that sparkly bags aren’t just for Christmas and the New Year’s Eve, but they are indeed for all year round. SS23 runways are a proof. From subtly embellished styles at Dries van Noten to maximalist designs at Roger Vivier, glitter and sparkle are about to follow us everywhere we go in 2023 and I’m here for it!
5. Fuzzy Textures

The most unexpected bag trend for 2023? Believe it or not, fuzzy textures! Furry, soft-to-touch bags were spotted all over the Spring/Summer 2023 runways, with fuzzy clutches making an appearance at both Jil Sander and Khaite, while shearling carryalls dominated the runway at Fendi. Obviously, these aren’t really meant for every day. But with a fuzzy clutch in one’s hand, who really cares?
