Louis Vuitton Re-Releases the Ellipse Bag
Just when we thought the Y2K revival trend is coming to an end, Louis Vuitton goes ahead and re-releases one of its Y2K icons – the Ellipse Bag.
Originally introduced in 1997, but discontinued 10 years later in 2007, the Louis Vuitton Ellipse Bag was truly one of the most emblematic bags of the Y2K era (handbag lovers of the 90s and early aughts will agree). Named after its oval silhouette, the Louis Vuitton Ellipse bag was defined by a flat base, rounded top and slanted sides. Versions in Monogram canvas also featured Vachetta piping.
Originally arriving in the PM size, the bag also later became available in other sizes, including the Mini, MM, Shopping and even Backpack. Crowd’s favorite? Definitely the Louis Vuitton Ellipse PM Bag in Monogram Canvas. And that’s also the bag in question today.

The New-Old Louis Vuitton Ellipse PM Bag
According to Louis Vuitton, the new Ellipse PM Bag is as a rare archive model inspired by the original Ellipse PM handbag from 1997. The new version, however, is modernized with the addition of a removable/adjustable crossbody strap (the original Ellipse PM bag from 1997 didn’t come with one), and a zippered front pocket.

The new version of the Louis Vuitton Ellipse PM Bag also sports dimensions of 11” x 8.3” x 3.1” inches (28 x 21 x 8 cm), which makes it slightly smaller than the original Louis Vuitton Ellipse PM which measured roughly 12.2” x 10.4” x 4.3” inches (31 x 26.5 x 11 cm). Although despite being smaller, the new version is arguably more versatile due to the additional strap and the extra front pocket.

I guess you choose which one you prefer. However, if you will be going for the vintage Ellipse PM, be aware that the prices might go up soon (which is typically the case with vintage versions of re-released bags). Or else, get the new version of the Ellipse PM Bag directly from Louis Vuitton for $2,510.
The Louis Vuitton Ellipse PM Bag is available now in Louis Vuitton boutiques around the world and on louisvuitton.com
