Top 5 Fashion Trends for Fall/Winter 2023-2024
As summer is coming to a close, it’s time to say goodbye to casual cargos and asymmetrical hems and hello to the upcoming season. The Fall/Winter season arguably has the most fun fashion, just think layers and accessories.
Between the aspirational aesthetic of “quiet luxury” and a good pair of statement knee-highs, Fall/Winter 2023-2024 fashion trends truly offer something for everyone. Hence why I’ve already started updating my wardrobe for the new season! And if you’re also looking to bring some seasonality to your style, here are the top five fashion trends for fall/winter 2023-2024.
1. Quiet Luxury

I’m sure you’ve heard of the “quiet luxury” by now. But in case if you didn’t, then listen. This stealth wealth style is all about understated elegance. Just imagine sleek silhouettes, muted colour palettes and minimalist embellishments.
For a seasonally specific style, I recommend creating a capsule wardrobe of staple pieces that can simply mix and match. For example, for your outerwear, go for something like a timeless camel coat, but when it comes to your other layers opt for natural fabrics. I’m talking about virgin wool sweaters, cashmere cardigans and silk slip dresses. Then simply top it off with a gold chain necklace, a pair of classic huggie or hoop earrings and you’re good to go!
2. Red (color)

If a natural palette isn’t quite your vibe, you’ll be pleased to hear that red is making a fierce comeback for Fall/Winter 2023. Unlike the subtle “quiet luxury” aesthetic, this colour palette is here to make a splash.
Actually, with the “barbiecore” reigning supreme for quite some time now, it only feels natural that the red color is taking over. But no matter if you’re after a traffic-stopping shade or a chic crimson piece, this trend has no limits of saturation.
And If you’re ready to jump on this trend, take a look at this gorgeous, the sixties-inspired Zenni dress from Reformation. I mean, just imagine how fabulous it would look paired with white knee-high boots! Or if you’re looking to ease into this transition, start small with accessories like the red Le Bambino Long Bag from Jacquemus.
3. Scarves

Sure, scarves are normally a popular accessory to turn to when the weather changes, but have you ever thought of wearing yours as outerwear? That’s right, for Fall/Winter 2023-2024, the beloved accessory is moving directly into the outerwear section, with options spotted on nearly every FW23 runway, from Michael Kors to Saint Laurent.
And if you already have a trusty scarf sitting in your wardrobe, no need to worry either. Just turn to the FW23 runways for styling inspiration! For example, a fringed scarf was spotted draped across a blazer and secured in place with a brooch at Saint Laurent, while a thin leather belt accompanied an extra-long, cashmere scarf at The Row. Basically, just think creatively and let the scarf be the talking point of your outfit.
4. Knee-High Boots

Knee-high boots will always be a forever Fall favourite of mine. They instantly elevate any look from casual to chic and are ideal for transitional weather.
Unlike previous years, Fall/Winter 2023 fashion is directly looking at how you can style your boots. Imagine a pair of metallic cowboy boots perfectly paired with a midi skirt. Or perhaps envision square-toed boots poking out from under a denim maxi skirt. If you’re really wanting to go to town with this one, try tucking a pair of oversized jeans into slouchy heeled boots to fully embrace your inner Y2K popstar.
For an elevated everyday look, I am absolutely obsessed with the Tronchetti 55MM Knee-High Suede Boots from Prada. Or if you are looking for a timeless pair of boots that are well worth the investment, I can’t recommend the Kerolyn’s from Gianvito Rossi enough.
5. Clutch Bags

If there is one accessory that you need to revive for FW23, it’s a clutch bag. These small bags used to boast just enough room for your compact, phone and gloss but these days fashion has truly met functionality.
That’s right, these days you no longer have to debate which items to put in your clutch. You can basically pack all of the essentials you need to carry with you and more. The proof? An abundance of oversized clutches spotted on FW23 catwalks, from chic and classy designs at Saint Laurent to more “trendier” styles at Bottega Veneta.
And talking about Bottega. The brand is 100% paving the way for clutches this season with the return of their iconic Knot Clutch (which has been discontinued in 2019), as well as the introduction of a new pouch-inspired Sardine Bag.
