Hermès To Raise Prices in the U.S. Again
Anyone else hoped that the brands won’t increase prices following this craziness with tariffs? I guess I am a hopeless optimist. With that in mind, I definitely didn’t think that Hermès would be the first brand to do it! Yes, you’ve heard it right; after its annual price adjustment earlier this year on January 6th, Hermès has now confirmed a second U.S. price hike set to take effect on May 1st, 2025. Announced during its Q1 earnings call, the upcoming price increase is reportedly a direct response to the new 10% import tariff unveiled by President Trump, which are poised to directly impact imported goods.
I guess the brands now have an incentive to produce in the US? Well, it’s much easier said than done! Quite frankly, even if Hermès chose to move some of their production to the US, this would take them years and years to accomplish—I mean, just imagine the time it would take to open a factory here, and I am not even talking about the training of the employees (allegedly it takes 5 years of training before a craftsman is admitted to make Birkin and Kelly bags). And let’s just be honest: with an “easy way” to pass on the tariff cost onto the consumer via a price increase, there’s really no need for Hermès to open up a factory here in the States. But how exactly is the new pricing going to look like come May 1st? Well, I’ve done my estimations. Particularly, I went ahead and applied the additional 10% to the current prices of some of the brand’s most coveted styles (don’t panic: a 10% import tariff doesn’t necessarily mean a price increase of 10 percent—I’m just calculating the worst-case scenario!).
| Hermès Piece | Current Price (USD) | Potential New Price on May 1st, 2025 |
| Oran Sandals | $800 | $880 |
| Twilly Scarves | $240 | $264 |
| Calvi Cardholder | $570 | $627 |
| Rodeo PM Charm | $570 | $627 |
| Birkin 25 Togo | $12,100 | $13,310 |
| Birkin 30 Togo | $13,300 | $14,630 |
| Mini Kelly 20 Epsom Sellier | $10,000 | $11,000 |
| Kelly 25 Togo Retourne | $12,000 | $13,200 |
| Kelly 25 Epsom Sellier | $12,600 | $13,860 |
| Kelly 28 Togo Retourne | $12,700 | $13,970 |
| Kelly 28 Epsom Sellier | $13,300 | $14,630 |
| Constance 18 Epsom | $9,700 | $10,670 |
| Picotin 18 Clemence | $3,550 | $3,905 |
| Evelyne TPM Clemence | $2,300 | $2,530 |
As I’ve mentioned earlier, these are simply the prices we may or may not see on May 1st, 2025. Thus, we will have to wait for May 1st to arrive to know the actual new Hermès U.S. prices. The calculations above, however, give a clear indication of what we should expect—a substantial increase on everything the brand sells in its U.S. boutiques. Wondering if more people will now be willing to shop the brand abroad (the May 2025 price increase is exclusive to the U.S. market)—what do you think? Let’s chat in the comments below!
