My Top 3 Tips To Travel Safely With Luxury

For anyone who loves luxury, traveling without a few of your favorite pieces can feel like torture. Believe me, I’ve been there. Whether it’s that O.G. designer handbag, the bracelet that makes every outfit pop, or the new pair of Chanel slingbacks you just had to bring “just in case,” leaving those items behind is often easier said than done.

That being said, I’ve learnt over the years that traveling in style also means traveling smart. In fact, with all the recently televised stories of handbag thefts and jewelry snatchings, it’s important now more than ever to know how keep your valuables protected while traveling.

So with the vacation season already upon us, I thought I’d share my top three tips for traveling safely with luxury. These are the simple strategies I follow every time I pack my suitcase, board a flight, and settle into a hotel room.

1. Keep Valuables in Your Carry-On (No Exceptions!)

I cannot stress this enough: never, ever check in your luxury items. I’ve heard too many horror stories of luggage going missing—and let’s be real, even if you’re flying first class, the airline won’t treat your pieces with the same love as you do.

So, what’s the solution? Well, simply take your valuables on the plane with you! I personally prefer to have all my jewelry, designer bags, and shoes packed neatly in a carry-on. What if an item doesn’t fit? I will have to make peace with the fact and leave it at home. Because security comes first!

2. Utilize in-room safes

Then, once you’ve checked into your hotel, don’t just leave your valuables scattered around the room like it’s your home. I’ve made that mistake before—thinking, “Oh, it’s a five-star hotel, everything’s secure.” But you’d be surprised how easy it is for things to go missing, even in the nicest places.

Most luxury hotels have in-room safes though, and while they’re not Fort Knox, they offer a decent level of security. I always lock away my jewelry, passports, and any high-ticket items when I’m out exploring or heading to the beach.

3. Digitalize Your Receipts and Serial Codes

My 3rd tip may not be as glamorous, but it’s incredibly useful—and especially when traveling internationally. Basically: before I head off, I take a moment to scan or photograph all receipts, certificates of authenticity, and serial numbers for the luxury items that I’m bringing with me.

Why? A few reasons. Customs can sometimes question high-value items, especially if you’re traveling with several luxury bags or fine jewelry. Having documentation makes the process smoother and proves the items are yours. And if the unthinkable happens—an item gets stolen or lost—having digital proof makes filing a report or insurance claim that much easier.

I store everything in a password-protected folder on my phone and upload a copy to cloud storage. It gives me an extra layer of security and, honestly, peace of mind.
