Louis Vuitton’s Makeup Line Is Here. But is it Worth it?

Nearly a decade after Louis Vuitton stunned the beauty world with its re-entry into fragrance—a return that began in 2016 but traced its roots back to the brand’s very first scent in 1946—the French fashion house is finally expanding its universe into makeup. That’s right, La Beauté Louis Vuitton is officially set to arrive on August 25th, 2025. And it’s none other than the “Mother of Makeup,” Pat McGrath herself, at the creative helm.

For beauty lovers and luxury enthusiasts alike, the launch feels both exciting and inevitable. Louis Vuitton has long been synonymous with craftsmanship, exclusivity, and storytelling, while Pat McGrath has spent over two decades shaping the brand’s runway looks. I mean, if anyone is capable of translating the essence of Louis Vuitton into makeup, it’s Pat McGrath.

But the true question is: is Louis Vuitton’s line gonna be any better than all of the designer makeup that’s already out there? Let’s discuss while we take a closer look at the La Beauté collection.

La Beauté Louis Vuitton

As mentioned earlier, La Beauté Louis Vuitton is set to launch on August 25th, 2025. And in the collection are:

LV Rouge Lipstick

Available in 55 shades and two finishes (Velvet Matte and Creamy Satin), the formula is infused with lip-loving ingredients like shea butter and hyaluronic acid, plus waxes derived from rose, jasmine, and mimosa flowers. And of course, no detail is too small for Louis Vuitton—the lipstick bullets are stamped with the iconic LV monogram, and the caps feature the signature monogram flower, making them instant collector’s items.

LV Baume

Then, for those who prefer a more subtle approach, the LV Baume adds a sheer, hydrating tint to lips and is available in 10 shades, including a clear option (those who know me well already know I will be trying this one out—a clear lip balm is a must-have in my purse).

LV Ombres Eyeshadow Quads

Offered in eight distinct color stories that range from elegant neutrals to stunning burgundy, the LV Ombres Eyeshadow Quads promise a silky, pigmented finish that’s gentle on the eyes. Formulated with plant-derived squalane and camelina flower oil extract.

The “Luxury” Price Tag

Are you interested in trying out the new Louis Vuitton makeup? Well, if yes, get ready to open your wallet, because the price point of this launch is truly out of this world. In particular, the LV Rouge and LV Baume will cost you $160 each, while the LV Ombres Eyeshadow Quads will set you back a whopping $250 per palette. To put this into perspective, Hermès lipsticks retail for about $80, Dior’s for closer to $50, and Chanel’s for around $70—making Louis Vuitton’s lipsticks more than double the price of its nearest luxury competitor. The same goes for eyeshadow: Chanel and Dior palettes generally sit in the $60–$70 range, while Tom Ford, often considered one of the priciest beauty brands, tops out around $90 for quads.

As you may have already guessed, the price range is already causing quite a stir online (and rightfully so, because $160 for a lipstick is absolutely insane!). Strategically, however, this sky-high pricing is very on-brand for Louis Vuitton. Basically, rather than competing with Dior or Hermès on a traditional luxury scale, the house is reframing makeup as a collectible—an extension of its fashion and leather goods universe. It’s a risky approach for sure. But it also simultaneously elevates the collection into an object of desire. And you know what? I am pretty sure it’s gonna do well for the brand, much like their uber-luxurious fragrances that have quietly become bestsellers since their 2016 launch.
