For a couple of weeks now, there have been rumors circulating about a possible Louis Vuitton price increase happening on October 1st. Well, unfortunately, rumors turned out to be true. On October 1st, 2021, a global Louis Vuitton price increase took place affecting the majority of Louis Vuitton’s handbags and SLG’s.
While you won’t necessarily surprise a luxury handbag lover with a price increase these days, the news isn’t always met well. Especially by those with wishlists. However, majority of the people in the luxury community still perceive price increases as a good thing, because with every price increase, the value of the items that we already own is going up. In fact, that’s exactly why so many luxury lovers view their bags as investments. But, let’s talk about this another day and for now focus on the current topic: the October 2021 Louis Vuitton price increase. So, for how much did our favorites go up in price this time? Read on to find out!
Pochette Accessoires goes up in price for over 30 percent
Can you believe that in 2019 you could purchase a Louis Vuitton Pochette Accessoires for $525? Fast forward to October 1st, 2021, the same piece sells for $1,050. How crazy is that?! Over the past two years, the Louis Vuitton Pochette Accessoires has increased in price for whopping 50 percent! Once a popular entry-level piece for Louis Vuitton, today, the Pochette Accessoires feels more like a piece catered exclusively towards die-hard LV fans.
The Mini Pochette is now $540, which is a 21 percent price increase from the last known retail price tag of $445. Actually, I’ve bought my Mini Pochette back in 2018 and as far as I can remember, I’ve paid around $300 for it (if not less). Not sure if I’d considering buying it at the current price (just saying).
Speedy 25 is now $1,350
Majority of the handbags impacted by the October 1st price increase are part of LV’s permanent collection. Out of all the styles, it looks like the Speedy has been impacted the most. The Louis Vuitton Speedy 25 in Monogram Canvas, prior to the price increase, retailed for $1,140 in the United States. Now, the bag is $1,350, which means an 18 percent price increase. The Louis Vuitton Speedy 30 also increased in price for 18 percent, going up from $1,160 to $1,370.
Our beloved Neverfull also hasn’t been spared. The bag has increased in price between 8 and 11 percent. The Neverfull PM in Canvas prior to the October 1st price increase used to retail for $1,460 and now it’s $1,620, which is a price increase of roughly 11 percent. The Neverfull MM and GM bags in Canvas now retail for $1,690 and $1,760 respectively.
The Louis Vuitton Alma BB in Monogram Canvas now retails for $1,620, which is $140 more compared to its previous retail price of $1,480.
Other popular styles that have been impacted by the current price increase include the Pochette Metis (12-15 percent), the Onthego tote (6-8 percent) and the Multi Pochette Accessoires (15 percent).
The newly released Louis Vuitton Coussin bag also wasn’t left behind. The new design saw a price increase of about 10 percent. The Coussin PM went from $3,550 to $3,900, while the Coussin MM went up in price from $3,950 to $4,300.
Surprisingly, one bag that was spared from the October 1st price increase is the Petite Male. At the time of writing this blog post, the bag is still listed for $5,500 on Louis Vuitton’s website.
