The beloved mini bag, known for its sleek and elegant silhouette, is getting a design update. That’s right—the classic WOC is getting redesigned yet again (avid Chanel fans will remember that the brand has already done this before, replacing the closure mechanism of the bag from a snap to a magnetic closure), and while it still carries the timeless charm we all adore, the new version brings a bold twist that’s about to turn heads! The Classic Chanel WOC (history and design)
Introduced in 1997, the Chanel Wallet on Chain instantly became a fan-favorite. Designed as a compact alternative to the already hugely-popular at the time Classic Flap, the WOC stood out for its sleek silhouette, with a diamond-quilted exterior and relatively discreet branding, which made it a must-have among the lovers of understated luxury. The WOC’s design also cleverly concealed a surprisingly functional interior—complete with a zipped compartment, 6 credit card slots, and enough room for everyday essentials. An attached, interwoven chain strap, on the other hand, allowed it to be styled multiple ways: worn crossbody, on the shoulder, or tucked in as a clutch.
Chanel WOC Redesign History
As I have previously mentioned, the design of the classic Chanel Wallet on Chain has already gone through a major change before. Namely, back in 2019, Chanel updated the WOC by replacing the traditional snap button closure with a magnetic one. As you can imagine, many people got really excited about the change as it enhanced both the security and the ease of use of the bag. Actually, many even went as far as to sell their original WOCs in order to acquire the new version instead! I guess we should expect them to do it again real soon?

The New Chanel Wallet on Chain
That’s right, in 2025, Chanel is once again rewriting the story of its iconic Wallet on Chain, this time by swapping the sleek magnetic closure for the house’s legendary CC turnlock! Btw, is it just me, or does this change feel really logical? I mean, the turnlock has been an integral part of Chanel’s DNA for decades. So, not only does this change add a layer of vintage charm to the WOC, but it also reinforces its status as a collectible rather than just a functional mini bag.
Chanel WOC Prices 2025
Though with the redesign also comes a price hike—the new Chanel Wallet on Chain featuring the CC turnlock now retails for $3,550 in caviar leather, a $200 increase from the previous magnetic-closure version, which was priced at $3,350. In my personal opinion, this isn’t necessarily too bad, especially when considering the added craftsmanship and emblematic hardware. After all, the turnlock doesn’t just elevate the aesthetic; it ties the WOC more closely to Chanel’s most iconic silhouettes, adding perceived value and a stronger connection to the brand’s heritage.
