2025 in Luxury Resale

Fashionphile’s 2025 Resale Report begins by highlighting how 2025 marked a turning point for luxury resale, transforming it from a trend-driven market into a form of personal expression. Basically, rather than buying into fast fashion in times of economic uncertainly, shoppers preferred buying into pre-owned pieces that carry history, individuality, and emotional value.

We’ve also learnt that creative director shake-ups can send shockwaves through the resale market! For example, when Demna made his dramatic exit from Balenciaga to Gucci (and Pierpaolo Piccioli later took over at Balenciaga), shoppers went crazy—sales for the Balenciaga Le City bag skyrocketed by a jaw-dropping 525% year over year. Meanwhile, Jonathan Anderson’s move from Loewe to Dior had everyone reminiscing about his Loewe era, driving a 13.3% spike in searches for the iconic Puzzle Bag. And let’s not forget Celine: when Michael Rider debuted his first collection, fans rushed to revisit the brand’s classics, causing searches for the Celine Phantom to surge more than 576%.

Most-shopped Handbags in 2025

And now to, in my opinion, the most fun part of the report: most-shopped handbags. And I am not sure if I am surprised by this, but the Louis Vuitton Speedy has taken the trophy as the most-shopped handbag of 2025 on Fashionphile. A classic never goes out of style, obviously. But perhaps, this increased interest in the Speedy could also be caused by the news of Louis Vuitton discontinuing the original version of the bag without the bandouliere strap. And you know how this works in luxury: sometimes when we learn something is being discontinued, we suddenly start wanting it.

But anyways, also among the top-shopped handbags of 2025 are: the Chanel Double Flap and the Gucci Marmont Shoulder Bag. Closing the top 5: the Hermès Evelyne and the Saint Laurent Loulou.

Most-shopped Handbag Style

Crossbody bags have long established themselves as a modern wardrobe essential—and it was further reinforced by Fashionphile’s 2025 Ultra-Luxury Resale Report, which identifies the hands-free silhouette as the most-shopped style on the platform. And it’s easy to see why: during tough economic times, shoppers naturally gravitate toward pieces that offer both style and versatility. Particularly coveted by Fashionphile shoppers this year are the Louis Vuitton Pochette Métis, the Chanel Wallet on Chain, and the Gucci Marmont bag.

Increased Demand for Bag Accessories

Another fun trend Fashionphile spotted in 2025? Bag accessories are having a serious moment. Searches for bag charms shot up a whopping 85% year over year—and honestly, it tracks. Everyone’s getting into the “birkinifying” craze (I’ve even published a dedicated article on this), turning their everyday totes into personalized fashion statements. From twilly scarves and padlocks to playful charms and keychains, shoppers are adding those extra touches that make a bag feel uniquely theirs. It’s no longer just about owning a luxury bag—it’s about styling it, customizing it, and giving it that little spark of personality that says, “this is me.”

One Bag, Four Generations!

Fashionphile’s 2025 Ultra-Luxury Resale Report also yet again proves that when it comes to handbags, every generation has its own signature style. Gen Z, in particular, are all about the understated luxury, and it shows with their gravitation towards minimalistic designs like the Hermès Sac Roulis (most shopped among Gen-Z in 2025 on Fashionphile). Millennials, on the other hand, seem to be obsessed with the Chanel Wallet on Chain (hands-free chic for the win!). Gen X keeps things classic with the Goyard St. Louis Tote, a timeless classic that’s equal parts status symbol and everyday staple. And baby boomers? They’re sticking with an oldie, but goodie—the Louis Vuitton Artsy, a roomy, and effortlessly elegant hobo.
