If there’s one handbag style I find myself recommending over and over again, it’s the crossbody. There’s just something incredibly convenient about having your essentials close at hand while keeping both hands free—and when the bag happens to be a beautiful designer piece, even better.
Of course, not all designer crossbody bags are created equal. Some don’t fit much more than a phone and lipstick, while others are surprisingly roomy. Some feel polished enough for the office or dinner, while others are at their best on vacation or during a weekend spent running errands. And then there are the rare designs that somehow manage to do all of the above.
I’ve rounded up 10 of my favorite designer crossbody bags below, including a mix of established classics and newer designs. If you’re looking for a crossbody that you’ll actually want to carry for years rather than just one season, these are the styles worth investing in.

1. Louis Vuitton Pochette Métis — Best Overall
The Louis Vuitton Pochette Métis has been around for more than a decade now, and the fact that it’s still so popular says a lot about the design. Plenty of “it” bags have come and gone since its launch, but the Pochette Métis has managed to stick around and earn its place among Louis Vuitton’s modern classics.
What makes it work so well, in my opinion, is that the Pochette Métis strikes a really nice balance between looking polished and being genuinely practical. The structured silhouette gives it that put-together feel, while the adjustable strap makes it easy to wear crossbody all day. And if you prefer to carry it by hand, there’s always the top handle.
Inside, the multiple compartments also make it surprisingly easy to keep your essentials organized. Then, add the S-lock and classic Monogram canvas, and you have a bag that feels distinctly Louis Vuitton without relying on an overly complicated design.

2. Celine Triomphe — Best for Timeless Elegance
If the Louis Vuitton Pochette Métis is the practical all-rounder, the Celine Triomphe is the bag I’d recommend to someone who puts a little more emphasis on elegance.
The signature Triomphe clasp gives the bag plenty of personality, but the branding remains relatively restrained. In fact, most of the visual impact comes from the bag’s clean lines and structured silhouette, which is also exactly what makes the Celine Triomphe so easy to wear.

3. Loewe Mini Puzzle Edge — Best Contemporary Design
There has been quite a bit of debate among handbag enthusiasts lately about the Puzzle Edge redesign, with some arguing that it is a downgrade from the original Loewe Puzzle Bag. Personally, I don’t completely agree. I actually think the Puzzle Edge has its own appeal.
The geometric construction remains recognizable as Loewe, while the cleaner lines give it a modern feel. It is also a great option if you want a luxury crossbody that doesn’t rely on a giant logo or monogram to make an impression.
The Mini is also has enough space for a phone, cards, keys and a few small extras. But if you tend to carry a bit more than just the essentials, you may want to consider a larger version (luckily, the Puzzle Edge has many sizes to choose from).

4. Gucci GG Marmont — Best Logomania Crossbody
Love it or hate it, the Gucci GG Marmont is here to stay.
The Marmont has been around long enough that I don’t think it makes sense to call it a fleeting trend anymore. The combination of chevron quilting, soft leather and the signature Double G hardware has become a recognizable part of Gucci’s DNA.
And I understand why it remains popular.
The smaller versions offer a nice balance between compact proportions and usable space, making the Marmont feel like a proper everyday handbag rather than a tiny accessory. It also has an easy, casual quality to it: wear it with jeans and sneakers or dress it up with a blazer or dress.
The Double G hardware though does mean that this is one of the more visibly branded bags on the list. If you’re looking for something more low-key, the Celine Triomphe, or the Loewe Puzzle Edge may be a better fit.

5. Chanel Rectangular Mini Flap — Best Chanel Crossbody
A Chanel flap bag will always be timeless, but if you’re specifically looking for a crossbody, I think the Rectangular Mini Flap deserves more attention than it sometimes gets.
Yes, it’s small. But here’s the interesting part: the Rectangular Mini isn’t dramatically smaller in terms of what you can actually carry than the Small Classic Flap. In fact, when you compare the two side by side, the difference in capacity is surprisingly minimal.

6. Hermès Evelyne TPM — Best Travel Crossbody
The Hermès Evelyne is the casual Hermès icon, and that is precisely what makes it so appealing. If a Birkin or Kelly feels like a handbag you often have to make an occasion for, the Evelyne is the one you can simply throw on and go.
And although the TPM is the smallest Evelyne size, I actually think its petite proportions are part of the appeal. It forces you to carry only what you really need, which can be particularly nice when you’re traveling, sightseeing or simply don’t want to be weighed down by a larger handbag.
For me personally, the Evelyne TPM is the kind of bag you can wear with jeans and sneakers one day and a summer dress the next without it ever feeling out of place.

If you don’t immediately recognize the name Savette, that’s partly the point.
The brand has developed a following around beautifully constructed handbags that focus on shape, proportion and craftsmanship rather than obvious logos. And the Symmetry 19 Crossbody Bag is a great example of that aesthetic.
The design retains the polished, architectural feel of the Symmetry line while adding a crossbody strap, making it considerably easier to wear day after day (the original Symmetry bag only has a top handle).
And I think that’s what makes this handbag so appealing. A top-handle bag can be beautiful, but there are plenty of occasions when you simply want to throw your handbag over your shoulder and have both hands free. 8. Saint Laurent Lou Camera Bag — Best Everyday Designer Crossbody Bag
Yes, everyone seemed to have the Saint Laurent Lou Camera Bag back in 2018. But that doesn’t necessarily make it dated.
One thing I’ve noticed with handbags is that certain silhouettes survive long after their initial moment in the spotlight. The camera bag is a perfect example. Its simple rectangular shape and hands-free strap make so much practical sense that it keeps coming back.
The Lou combines that useful silhouette with Saint Laurent’s signature YSL hardware and quilted leather, giving it enough personality to feel like a luxury handbag rather than simply a functional crossbody. Older versions also feature a tassel detail, although this varries between different iterations.

9. Toteme T-Lock — Best for Minimalists
Toteme has quickly become one of the names associated with understated luxury, and their T-Lock Bag is a great example of why.
There is nothing particularly loud about the design. Instead, the bag relies on clean lines, a structured silhouette and its distinctive T-shaped closure to create its identity.

10. Longchamp Le Pliage Xtra XS — Best Affordable Designer Crossbody Bag
The Longchamp Le Pliage Xtra XS is the wildcard on this list—and I’m keeping it here for a reason.
When we talk about the “best designer crossbody bags,” these lists can quickly become a parade of handbags costing several thousand dollars. But a designer handbag doesn’t necessarily have to mean an ultra-luxury purchase.
The Le Pliage Xtra XS takes inspiration from Longchamp’s famous Le Pliage tote and translates the recognizable shape into a compact leather bag, complete with a removable crossbody strap.
Of course, it doesn’t offer the same collector appeal or luxury positioning as many of the bags above. But let’s be honest: at just $395 retail, it doesn’t really matter.
Best for: an affordable designer crossbody bag.
Are Designer Crossbody Bags Worth It?
I think a good designer crossbody can be one of the easiest luxury handbag purchases to justify—not because every designer crossbody is necessarily an “investment,” but because the format lends itself to frequent wear.
Unlike a delicate evening bag that might only come out for special occasions, a crossbody can work for travel, weekends, errands, and the list goes on. Not to even mention that when you find one that is both cute (for your taste) and practical (for your lifestyle), it can easily become one of the most-used bags in your wardrobe.
I would therefore focus less on whether a particular bag will increase in value and more on whether you’ll actually carry it. A beautiful handbag that works with your lifestyle and wardrobe is, in my opinion, a much better purchase than an expensive “investment” bag that spends most of its time sitting in the closet. But these are just my thoughts.
Which Designer Crossbody Bag Should You Get?
I think you’ve probably noticed by now that my personal favorite on this list is the Louis Vuitton Pochette Métis. In my opinion, you simply can’t go wrong with it. It’s practical without looking overly casual, has enough room for your everyday essentials, and works just as well with jeans and sneakers as it does with a more polished outfit. The fact that it has been a popular Louis Vuitton style for more than a decade only adds to its appeal.
That said, the “best” designer crossbody really depends on what you want from your handbag.
If you prefer something more understated, I’d look at the Celine Triomphe, Savette Symmetry 19 or Toteme T-Lock. The Chanel Rectangular Mini is a particularly interesting option if you want the look of a Classic Flap without paying the price of the larger sizes, while the Hermès Evelyne TPM is hard to beat for casual days and travel.
