Louis Vuitton Monogram Bumbag Discontinued
It was around two months ago that the rumors started circulating around about the Louis Vuitton Monogram Bumbag, possibly getting discontinued. To be honest, initially I was like, no way LV is going to discontinue this piece. It’s still so insanely popular! However, later on I’ve decided to ask my SA and rumors have confirmed. Quite frankly, the Louis Vuitton Monogram Bumbag has just been discontinued on April 1st.
I don’t know how about you, but I’ve always felt weird when fashion houses discontinue popular items. I get it that they would want to phase out something that hasn’t been selling well, but when it’s something that’s obviously successful, it just doesn’t make sense.
The Monogram Bumbag has been among the best-selling Louis Vuitton items ever since its release in Spring 2018. Around that time, belt bags were all the rage, and of course, Louis Vuitton couldn’t pass on the trend. Little did they know that the piece would end up being so popular that it would accumulate waitlists! All jokes aside, it was pretty difficult to get ahold of the Original Louis Vuitton Monogram Bumbag. Even when LV would restock it, it would sell out long before you manage to realize the restock has happened. Yes, that’s how popular it was!
As mentioned earlier, originally, the Bumbag was released in LV’s classic Monogram Canvas. It later arrived in the My LV World Tour version, as well as in the Empreinte leather. However, the Empreinte leather version was much smaller than the original one. It only measured 23 x 16 x 10 while the original Monogram Bumbag was 37 x 14 x 13 cm. Actually, from what we know, Louis Vuitton hasn’t discontinued the Empreinte version of the Bumbag yet. Only the Monogram and My LV World Tour versions have been discontinued April 1st.
Louis Vuitton Bumbag Design

By the way, let’s talk a little bit of the LV Bumbag design. The Monogram Bumbag featured a “banana-like” silhouette with an adjustable vachetta leather belt and a top handle. Decorated with a “Louis Vuitton Paris” leather patch in the middle, the bag opened up to one main compartment with a double zip closure. Additionally, it also featured a zipped back pocket. Stylish and uber-functional, the Louis Vuitton Monogram Bumbag could be worn multiple ways: as a belt bag, crossbody bag, a shoulder bag and even as a top handle. Sporting generous dimensions of 37 x 14 x 13 cm (14.6 x 5.5 x 5.1 inches), it could fit in everything from a compact card holder to a bulky sunglasses case.
Louis Vuitton Monogram Bumbag Retail & Resale Prices
When initially released, the Monogram Bumbag used to retail for $1,500. However, as any popular Louis Vuitton style, it has undergone several price increases since its release. The latest known retail price of the Monogram Bumbag before the discontinuation was $2,030. Needless to say that now when the bag is officially discontinued resale prices are through the roof. Check this one for sale right now on Fashionphile for whopping $3,695! Idk if anyone would be willing to pay this? Let me know in the comments below! I personally think that with resale prices so insane we should consider searching for alternative options.
Alternative options to the Louis Vuitton Bumbag
In my opinion, one of the best alternatives to the Louis Vuitton Monogram Bumbag is the MCM Fursten Small Belt Bag. Just like the LV Bumbag, it’s made of brand’s signature canvas in an ultra-functional banana-like silhouette. Furthermore, currently priced at $580 the MCM Fursten Small Belt Bag is so much more affordable than the LV Bumbag, while providing with the same aesthetic. Definitely check it out if you are looking for an LV Bumbag alternative. For more alternative options, make sure to check out my article on the best designer belt bags.
What are your thoughts on the Louis Vuitton Monogram Bumbag getting discontinued? Did it make you sad, but most importantly, would you buy it through the pre-loved market now when it is discontinued? Sound off in the comments below!
I am really sad about the bumbag being discountinued I kept looking online to see when it would be back in stock never could get my hands on one. I will not buy one on the preloved market asking to much. My heart is so sad
Hi Judith! Many thanks for your comment. I am also really sad about this. I think the Monogram version of the bumbag was the best of them all. It’s really unfortunate that it has been discontinued.
I’m probably sadder then you!! I called everyday for 60days and then oneday the bag was completely gone. I saved and saved for that Bag..
I am so sorry to hear about it, Juanita!
I bought mine in the end of 2020 & love it so much. I decided to sell it because I could use the cash + I think a new version will be released soon with an improved zipper (much needed, it’s so hard to open/close) & the resell price will drop. Mine sold in just over 24 hours on Poshmark for $3k!
Oh, wow! Big congratulations, Barbara! I think selling it now was the right thing to do. Gotta take advantage of those resale prices! However, I haven’t heard anything about the bumbag being re-released yet. But I hope you are right! It could be awesome if LV improved the design a bit.
i was one of the lucky ones who was able to purchase the LV Bumbag (mono) through my SA in Vegas last January 2022. In November, I was in Vegas and wanted to buy a LV mono bumbag but my SA said it was difficult to get since they send only one bumbag per store. Once they receive it, it is sold immediately. She then promised me she will get the next bumbag her store will receive. She did deliver! I got a call January 2, 2022 but because I was at work, I couldn’t reply to her text message. I called her later but she said it was offered and sold to the next one on the waiting list. Needless to say, I was so bummed! I contacted her again and made sure to tell her I was not giving up. Two weeks later around third week of January 2022, I got another text message and this time, I replied and she sent me a payment link. Sold! She immediately packaged it up and sent it by overnight mail. It is made in France and it is microchipped. I am one happy camper! I haven’t sold any of my LV bags and I tend to collect and keep them.
Sounds like you have an awesome SA! And congratulations with your bag!
What do you think of the LV discovery bum bag? It seems like aimed for men but I badly want a LV bum bag!
I think it’s awesome. Especially the PM size!
Is the PM size smaller than the original monogram bumbag? I was thinking of the discovery bum bag pm as well – since it is still available and i’d rather get a new one straight from LV then spend $1,000 over retail for a used monogram online. My first impression was it was unisex for sure and you can’t go wrong with black.
I think they are about the same size. I’ve just checked dimensions of the discovery bumbag pm at louisvuitton.com and it seems like an option in monogram eclipse canvas measures 17.3 x 5.9 x 3.5 inches. Fashionphile says that the original bumbag measures 14.75 x 7 x 5.5 inches. I guess, the discovery pm is a bit narrower than the original bumbag! But other than that, I don’t see a big difference. I am definitely going to check it out next time I am at LV!
I just sold mine this month for 3600 dollars, I’ve bought it in 2020 and honestly that bag gave me so much anxiety (I hate vacheta ) that I’m super happy for getting rid of it.
It was in a great condition since I’ve worn it a hand full of times, but unfortunately for people looking for it brand new in the box I’ve seen it for 5k, which is insane considering I’ve payed 1700 dollars…
It’s crazy to think that some people are willing to pay 5k for the Bumbag! And to be honest, I am not a big fan of vachetta either. I always try to get my LV bags with black leather trim when possible. It rains a lot where I live and I’d hate to get water damage on vachetta.
I just bought a pre-loved bumbag for 3k, I know, I know outrageous, but if you’re a Louis lover & love the belt bag for casual wear, it’s perfect for the Fall, Travel and running errands!
It’s sure a wonderful bag for all the uses you’ve mentioned! Congratulations! I hope it works out great for you.
Thinking about this bag literally keeps me up at night (perhaps I have a problem haha).. I’ve been monitoring different resellers for months (StockX, Poshmark) and finally pulled the trigger for $2,650. I know I’m significantly overpaying, but it will likely be a bag I have in my collection forever. I chose to only look on those sites because they check the authenticity of the bag before shipping… any best practices that I can do once I receive it to double check? Thanks for your post!
Hi Shelby & many thanks for your comment! To be honest, I don’t think $2,650 is a bad price. I know people that have paid 3k and over for the pre-loved bumbag after it’s been discontinued. I think as long as it’s a bag that you intend to keep in your collection forever; the premium is well justified. However, when you receive your bag, I’d recommend getting it authenticated because even the most reputable resellers sometimes let the fakes slip through.
Hi Masha; wld you know weather LV pulls a product so that the masses yearns for it & then the product is brought back at a higher price point. Pls advise; thx! Do u think they will eventually bring it back?
Hi Robin! That’s a really interesting question! I don’t want to speculate on anything, but if you can remember, around a year and a half ago, LV did pull the Toiletry Pouch to only bring it back this year and at a much higher price point. Not sure if they would do the same with the Bumbag, but I do think that it will eventually be back (or they’ll introduce a similar style). Fashion is cyclical after all.
